Feeding the mother during breastfeeding it doesn't have to be different from any other woman's dietSince, whatever the stage of life you are in, the diet must be healthy and balanced.
In reality, there is no forbidden food or any that can be considered mandatory for the nursing mother, either to produce more milk or to make it of better quality. Mammalian milk is the best quality milk for feeding newborn pups. It is, in fact, the only food capable of covering all nutritional needs.
1. Have to eat more? Traditionally it used to be recommended an increase of 500 kcal over the needs of the mother before pregnancy. However, recent studies affirm that no more than 200 Kcal per day are necessary on the recommended diet for non-lactating mothers, which seems to indicate that there is an improvement in metabolism during lactation, making it more efficient.

It is true that during breastfeeding the feeling of thirst is usually increased, especially at the beginning, but it is not necessary to drink more water, or less, than what the body itself asks for. Nor is it necessary to drink more milk than is usually drunk, if it is within the mother's usual diet, since the consumption of cow's milk (or goat's milk, or rice or almond milk) does not increases the production of breast milk.
3. Does my baby have gas from the food I eat? On the other hand, foods or beverages that produce gases in the mother, do not produce them in the baby. In fact, in most cases, gases are generated in the maternal stomach or intestine and more specifically in the colon, generally as a consequence of the fermentation of carbohydrates thanks to the bacteria that are part of the intestinal flora. In the case of carbonated beverages, the gas is usually swallowed and expelled orally. The gases do not pass into the blood, and therefore they do not pass into the milk.
4. Should I avoid strong foods like garlic? Other foods, such as onion, garlic, or asparagus, are forbidden on the grounds that their flavors are too strong for the baby. The baby, contrary to these beliefs, is accustomed to the flavors of the foods usually consumed by the mother from the intrauterine stage. The particles responsible for the flavor of food are capable of reaching the amniotic fluid that the fetus ingests regularly in the womb through the placenta, changing its taste, so a strong taste is not enough reason to have to avoid any food. However, it is still true that flavors pass into breast milk, and some babies can be extremely sensitive to them, so each case can and should be evaluated on an individual basis.
